Metasequoia glyptostroboides – The beautiful Dawn Redwood can be a wonderful addition to any larger landscape setting. With the potential size of 50 to 75 feet, this deciduous conifer needs and deserves plenty of space. It does well in many soils, especially in moist conditions. The light green foliage is delicate in appearance, turning orange-red in fall before dropping. As it matures, it can develop buttress-type ribs along the trunk. Whether in a grouping (see the grove at The New York Botanical Garden) or as a single specimen, this tree is a year round winner.
